With Fortnite Chapter 2 fresh and new, we’re discovering a slew of new features. Here’s everything you need to know about the new fishing mechanic in the game.
Getting a Fishing Rod in Fortnite
In order to go fishing, you need a fishing rod. Obviously. This is a new item that the player can find in chest and containers throughout the map. One reliable location is the Unremarkable Shack on the north side of the island. It will contain a barrel that you can search for a rod.
Where to Fish in Fortnite
You can fish at any location a fishing spot can be found. These can be distinguished by the circular waves made in the water. These will appear more frequently near landmarks, but I’ve seen them out in various locations.
How to Fish
The rules are simple: hold “fire” to display your aiming arc. Aim this arc so that it lands in the fishing spot, and release. You’ll cast a line onto that spot and wait. When you see a splash and hear a noise, fire again to pull on the line. If you did it right, you’ll pull something out of the water.
Usually, you’ll pull up a Flopper, this little orange fish can be carried like equipment and used to restore health in the game. They stack, too. You can also pull up items and weapons from the water if you’re lucky. The best I’ve pulled so far has been a Blue Assault Rifle.
Now we just need a real life Nerf rendition of the Flopper to throw around.
